Writing and Editing Samples

Below are some samples of my writing and editing work. I’ve organized them by category, so please feel free to scroll to the section that’s most relevant to you!

In my work as a freelance writer and editor, I primarily work on a project-by-project basis. In order to boost brand awareness, I write blog posts, op-eds, and other written content. I take pride in conducting additional research to thoroughly understand my client’s industry. I believe that strong communicators are strong learners, and we communicate better when we have a holistic understanding of a niche.

Here is a sample of my copywriting: It’s an article I’ve written for a company that specializes in treating wastewater. In order to boost brand awareness, the client requested I write an expert editorial piece to a relevant industry newsletter.

In addition to my work as a freelance writer, I am an editorial intern at Marketing Choices, a digital marketing service. Our primary clients are private adoption agencies seeking high quality blog content. As a copywriter, I use foundational SEO strategies and established content management systems to promote organic website traffic.

Our agency consistency ranks high on results pages in our client’s targeted searches, and we are trained in effective keyword and hyperlinking strategy to maximize hits from search engine crawlers.

While earning my B.A. in psychology, I wrote research papers based on published studies. To the left is a segment of an editorial piece that cites multiple studies. Additionally, I have experience in writing original articles based on previously published research.

In addition to my nearly five years of experience as an after-school teaching assistant, I have spent the last three years as a university application instructor. I guide students through the full process of ideating, drafting, editing, and finalizing all personal statements.

Being an effective editor/instructor requires stringent organization and administrative capabilities. As a part of my role, I construct and maintain custom content management systems that feature progress tracking spreadsheets, collaborative document work spaces, and shared calendars that provide updates.

I employ this approach for my text editing and proofreading work as well. I adapt my base style to the client’s request/preferred software, whether it be handwritten notes, in-document comments, or direct edits via the software’s proprietary change tracking features. The flexibility required in these roles also means that I can quickly pick up a new content management system an optimize my client’s experience.

In 2021, I conducted an interview with experimental filmmaker Natalie Bookchin as a contribution to the FemExFilm Archive. Prior to the interview, I watched all of her accessible works and conducted independent research on her style and artistic philosophy.

Here’s Natalie Bookchin’s short film “Location Insecure.” It features footage acquired from openly accessible security cameras through basic search manipulation. The footage transcends time and space via the internet, allowing us to see through several lenses all at once. There’s a dissonance between accessing available public feeds and the uncertainty of crossing an assumed barrier of privacy.

Analytical writing has always been my forté, and I have extensive work to show for it. Digging into the construction, interpretation, and reception of media is where I thrive. There is an inextricable link between art and culture regardless of temporal or physical distance. Using this medium as a conduit for sociological understanding remains systemically undervalued.

While creating these in-depth works, I’ve become proficient with navigating large databases, conducting scholarly research, and synthesizing different subjects into an effective final product.

This particular background is what enables me to edit and proofread with a keen eye without losing sight of the core of a written work. I am comfortable not only translating dense or dated terminology for a general audience, but also presenting fundamental concepts otherwise overlooked with rote transcription.
